Pensionsgaranti – a Part of Sweden’s Social Security System

In the decades following the Second World War, Swedish insurance underwent extensive changes. With the development of the welfare system, the market for private insurance companies changed considerably. For several decades the development of private pension schemes was hampered, but the welfare system was not totally negative for private insurance. Already in the 1960s new pension reforms and companies were introduced, whose main purpose was to “fill the holes” in the compulsory welfare system. On such company is Pensionsgarant, which was introduced in 1961 to administer the pensions for private office employees. In this project, the development of Pensionsgaranti will be put in a larger economic and political context, looking at the role of the company for policy holders as well as for society as a whole.

This is a joint project between UCBH and The Institute for Economic and Business History Research (EHFF).

The project was initiated in 2006 and will be finished in 2010.
